Carpet flooring and durability

Carpet flooring and durability

Whether shopping for carpeting or other flooring, durability will always be a top priority.

Modern technology has enabled mills to develop carpets with extra durability and outstanding stain resistance. There are even unique versions, such as hypoallergenic, pet-friendly, and sustainable.

Describe your needs and style to the flooring expert and read labels thoroughly. There are three major factors involved in the carpet's durability. But, first, research to find out what's best for you.

Fiber: the most crucial decision you'll make

You’ll see an assortment of fibers in our carpet store. Please get familiar with the pros and cons of each, as they all have different levels of strength and stain resistance.

They include wool, a natural fiber. Synthetics include nylon, known for superior strength and ideal for large, active families.

Polyester has superior stain resistance and is best for moderately busy rooms. In addition, olefin is durable and budget-friendly.

Triexta has a solid reputation for strength and is known for permanent stain resistance built into the fiber.

Look at pile

There are looped constructions and cut piles with fibers of various heights. Generally, a floor covering with a shorter fiber is more durable and easier to clean.

Understand quality

A higher quality rug is longer lasting -because of its durability. Look on the label for a density number. Density refers to how closely together the fibers are tufted; a good number is 3,000 or above.

Higher fiber carpeting has a twist number, also on the label. A good number is four and above.
